There are government guidelines with
regards to young children’s learning process that have to be followed. From
birth to five years of age, there are guiding principles on how young kids
should learn. The early education curriculum which is mandated by the
government has to implemented. The approaches in implementing this curriculum
may differ from one day care Karana centre to another. Developing the creativity of
young children can be done by involving them in activities that they are
interested. There should be no formal
lesson regarding alphabets and numbers. This will be taught when they start
their regular school and when they are a little bit older. A play-based
learning is one of the ways to enhance young children’s learning. This kind of
program should really reflect the interest of the children so that they will
not be bored when learning. They should be involved but at the same time having
fun while they are in the area. Also, the program should also go with the
interests of the families too.
Play-based learning in a day care Karana can be a
better stimulus for the brain development of kids. Through this, their
communication and language are being improved plus their social and emotional
skills could also be developed. Literacy as well as improvement of life skills
can also be included in this kind of program. What the young children should
learn and develop should always be appropriate for their age group. Being in a play-based program, the children
would be able to interact and share ideas with each other. They will also be
taught on how to remember rules and have the confidence to speak when they are
in a group. These very young kids should not be subjected to an intense formal
learning. Young children should have fun while learning the things around them.
